When do I need a Hazel Dormouse Survey?

Dormice live in a variety of habitats and are most associated with broad-leaved woodlands and species-rich hedgerows. The small mammal is protected under both UK and European law through the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 (as amended) and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended).

Prior to any development, protected species are required to be considered prior to the approval of planning. The following species are protected and must be considered:
