Harmil Environmental's team of expert ecologists have extensive experience in undertaking otter surveys and producing professional and comprehensive ecological reports required to meet planning conditions.

Working throughout the UK, we have worked on a wide range of projects throughout the UK and continue to work with private clients, architects, developers and local authorities. Our aim is to make developments proceed as smoothly as possible whilst working under the jurisdiction of the wildlife laws.

When do I need an Otter Survey?

Otters are fully protected under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 (as amended) and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Otters can be found throughout all water courses in both rural and urban locations. Interestingly, otters are able to give birth to cubs at any time of the year.

Prior to any development, protected species are required to be considered prior to the approval of planning. The following species are protected and must be considered:

- Bats

- Badgers

- Birds

- Great Crested Newts

- Hazel Dormouse

- Invertebrates

- Otters

- Red Squirrels

- Reptiles

- Water Voles

- White-Clawed Crayfish

- Other Wildlife
