Harmil Environmental's team of expert ecologists have extensive experience in undertaking reptile surveys and producing professional and comprehensive ecological reports required to meet planning conditions.

Working throughout the UK, we have worked on a wide range of projects throughout the UK and continue to work with private clients, architects, developers and local authorities. Our aim is to make developments proceed as smoothly as possible whilst working under the jurisdiction of the wildlife laws.

When do I need a Reptile Survey?

The requirement for survey is due to the legal protection afforded to
them on the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended), making it
illegal to deliberately injure, kill, capture or disturb any reptiles. They are also afforded protection under the Natural Environment Rural Communities (NERC) Act 2006, with local authorities and other public bodies being required to legally consider their conservation. We are well trained in the methodologies and mitigation regarding reptiles.

Prior to any development, protected species are required to be considered prior to the approval of planning. The following species are protected and must be considered:

- Bats

- Badgers

- Birds

- Great Crested Newts

- Hazel Dormouse

- Invertebrates

- Otters

- Red Squirrels

- Reptiles

- Water Voles

- White-Clawed Crayfish

- Other Wildlife
