Invertebrate Surveys
Harmil Environmental's team of expert ecologists have extensive experience in undertaking invertebrate surveys and producing professional and comprehensive ecological reports required to meet planning conditions.
Working throughout the UK, we have worked on a wide range of projects throughout the UK and continue to work with private clients, architects, developers and local authorities. Our aim is to make developments proceed as smoothly as possible whilst working under the jurisdiction of the wildlife laws.
When do I need a Invertebrate Survey?
Invertebrate surveys are sometimes required in order for a planning application to be accepted. Some invertebrates are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) and the Natural Environment Rural Communities (NERC) Act 2001.
They can also be found on the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP) priority species, and therefore cannot be overlooked during the development process. Invertebrates are vital to the equilibrium that may exist in that area. They are the basis of many food chains and are also vital pollinators for wildflowers.
Prior to any development, protected species are required to be considered prior to the approval of planning. The following species are protected and must be considered:
- Bats
- Badgers
- Birds
- Otters
- Reptiles
